THE NFL AND BLACK HISTORY MONTH

HAPPY 4TH OF JULY.  INDEPENDANCE DAY!!!

There are several reports of the NFL planning to play the Black national anthem before games during Week 1 of the 2020 season. I have been around 71 years but I only remember ONE "National Anthem". The meaning of NATIONAL is one of unity, all standing behind one flag with pride.

Perhaps that is the root cause or problem with what and how the media describes -as yet another component of RACISM.  Racism is not learned…it is taught.  It’s learned, however, from the generations before us that assumed the role and mentality from their parents and grandparents.

Frankly…I’m fine with Black History Month -as I would be happy with Italian History Month or Irish or Italian History Month.  We are then observing nationalities and history-NOT THE COLOR OF SKIN.  Certainly, the African, Italians, Irish, Arabic, Swedish and German populations, combined with so many others have woven the weave of the fabric of our society since 1776.  I am a son of immigrant and so proud of it.

I think that every, all and each of the ethnicities that pass-through Ellis Island and follow the laws and procedures to become an American citizen and strive for citizenship should deserve equal representation as a 100% citizen.  It took my Father seven years.

At that point the color of skin should be academic and impervious to the discussion and they -at that moment- become part and parcel of the body of man known as the UNITED STATES OF AMERICA.
